The Federal Government has handed over the rehabilitated Lower Anambra Irrigation Project (LAIP) Water Pumping Station in Ifite-Ogwari, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State to the Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority (AIRBDA).


The project was completed under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Programme Phase One (ATASP-1) to support irrigation farming and improve food production in the area.


Speaking at the ceremony, National Programme Coordinator of ATASP-1, Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Arabi, represented by Engr. Usman Abdullahi, said over 2,000 hectares of farmland had been rehabilitated for year-round farming.


ATASP-1 Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Romanus Egba, said the project included rehabilitation of the pumping station and 40.1 kilometres of irrigation canals.


Receiving the facility, AIRBDA Managing Director, Senator Emma Obiajulu Anosike, assured stakeholders of proper maintenance of the infrastructure.


Traditional ruler of Ifite-Ogwari, HRH Igwe Alphonsus Ofuebe, described the project as a boost to agricultural productivity in the area.
