The traditional ruler of Abacha Kingdom in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Godwin Nwabunwanne Odiegwu, has cautioned journalists against sensational and unverified reportage capable of damaging the reputation of individuals and government officials.

Speaking while reacting to reports allegedly published by an online television platform, the monarch denied making statements credited to him against the administration of Chukwuma Soludo.

Igwe Odiegwu described the reports as false, misleading and imaginary, stressing that he never granted any interview criticizing the state government or accusing it of abandoning Abacha community.

According to the monarch, he and the people of Abacha have continued to support Governor Soludo’s administration and its development programmes in the state.

He urged journalists to always verify information before publication, warning against the use of media platforms to malign public figures or pursue personal interests.

The royal father also called on the Nigeria Union of Journalists and other relevant professional bodies to strengthen ethical standards in the media industry to preserve the credibility of journalism.

Igwe Odiegwu emphasized that journalists, as the fourth estate of the realm, should uphold truth, fairness and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
