A Labour Party (LP) senatorial aspirant for Anambra Central, Venerable Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue, has congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion of this year’s International Workers’ Day, while expressing concern over worsening working conditions across the country.

In a statement issued in Awka, Ikezue highlighted key challenges facing workers, including the rising cost of living, increasing transportation and housing expenses, delayed salary payments, and limited job opportunities.

He also pointed to irregular training and inadequate capacity development as barriers preventing workers from meeting global standards.

“I know the challenges are many—high cost of living, delayed salaries, tough working conditions, and limited opportunities. Your struggles are real,” he said.

Describing workers as the backbone of the nation’s economy, Ikezue commended the resilience and contributions of teachers, healthcare workers, traders, artisans, farmers, and civil servants toward national development.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, noting that the platform remains focused on advancing workers’ welfare and promoting people-oriented governance.

The cleric-turned-politician pledged to advocate for improved wages, better working conditions, job creation, and stronger protection of workers’ rights if elected.

He also promised to support skills development initiatives aimed at empowering the workforce.
“You deserve a Senator who will speak boldly for you. Your labour will never be in vain,” he added.
