Nnamdi Kanu: Verdict, life jail won’t stand-Barr Ejimakor

Barr Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to the just convicted leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has said that the verdict and life imprisonment slammed on Kanu today would not stand.

Barr Ejimakor in his X insisted that Mazi Kanu is not a terrorist, saying that Ndigbo are not terrorists.

“We all know who the real terrorists are and luckily, the Americans know them too, “Ejimakor insisted.

Justice James Omotosho on Thursday convicted Kanu on all seven terrorism-related charges filed by the Federal Government.

The court imposed a life sentence on counts one, two, four, five, and six; a 20-year sentence without the option of a fine on count three; and an additional five-year sentence, also without the option of a fine, on count seven.

Reacting after the judgment, Ejimakor told journalists that the defence team would immediately move to the Court of Appeal.

“We are heading to appeal,” he said.

Also reacting to the judgement, Ejimakor in a tweet said the sentence will not stand, insisting that the IPOB leader is not a terrorist.

He tweeted: “The verdict and the sentence today will not stand. MAZI NNAMDI KANU is not a terrorist. NDIGBO are not terrorists. We all know who the real terrorists are and luckily, the Americans know them too.”

According to him, some of the broadcasts evidence the court used in convicting Kanu were harmless speeches.

“How can you convict a man for making mere broadcasts from a location that was never named and you never tied the broadcasts to any single incidence of violence,?” he asked.

Ejimakor argued that the judgement is not grounded in law, logic or fact.
