Umueri gives reasons for supporting Soludo’s second tenure

Umueri community in Anambra East local government area of Anambra State went agog on Thursday, September 18, when the President General of the town, High Chief John Meche; traditional ruler, HRH Igwe Ben Emeka, and other townspeople turned out in their hundreds to the town square to receive the governor of the state, Prof. Charles Soludo, and subsequently endorsed him for another term in office.

The endorsement rally attracted community leaders, traditional rulers, and visitors from other neighbouring communities.

In his opening speech during the ceremony, President General of Umueri General Assembly, High Chief (Ambassador) John Metche, said that Anambra East and Anambra North by extension has no other political party and candidate for the November 8 governorship election than the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and Governor Charles Soludo.

The community leader averred that other political parties are passers-by, and would not make any impression in the area on the election day.

“Everybody is a witness that Governor Charles Soludo loves Umueri people,” the community leader said. “This is the 5th time he is visiting our community since he assumed office.

“Today, we’re happy to announce that Umueri people are 100 percent behind Soludo. Come November 8, no single vote will be allowed to waste – all will go to the working governor,” he said.

The PG enumerated the achievements of Mr. Governor in the community to include reconstruction and equipping of Umueri General Hospital, restoration of peace, order and security in Umueri and construction of Otuocha market as part of dividends necessitating the endorsement.

Traditional ruler of Umueri community, HRH Igwe Ben Emeka, said that his community was happy to associate with Governor Charles Soludo because of numerous democracy dividends the governor brought to the town in addition to restoration of peace, order and security. He assured that despite whatever opposition, the community would mobilize greatly to ensure that come November 8 governorship election, his community would deliver as much as 90 percent of their votes to the governor.

Mayor of Anambra East local government area, Hon. Sir Ifeanyichukwu Chinweze (Ebube Omambala), who is also from Umueri community, thanked Mr. Governor for the opportunity given him to serve the people of Anambra East LGA.

While enumerating myriad of other things done in the council area by the governor, the council chairman said that come November 8, the people would pay him back with their votes.

Chairman of Otuocha Market Traders Union, Ogbuevi Udeanyinya Ateli, said that traders in the market were part of endorsement of Governor Soludo.

According to him, “We’re part of the endorsement of Governor Soludo because of a lot of good things he is doing in every area of the state, including the construction of 560 lock-up shops in Otuocha market, which is the central market for the Omambala region, which includes Anambra East, Anambra West, Oyi and Ayamelum local government areas.

President General of Umuoba Anam community, Barr A. Anizor, also thanked Governor Soludo, while saying that his community is part of the mega endorsement. He said that the governor has done well, and that his community would reward Mr. Governor with their votes come November 8, 2025.

Speaking, Governor Charles Soludo thanked the people for hosting him, and for their endorsement. He also announced that the traditional ruler and President General of the town, as well as the Mayor of Anambra East were all great pillars of support to his administration.

Soludo, who during the occasion, was reminded by youths and women of the town of the importance of constructing the Ifite Umueri to Chinua Achebe International Airport road, said that the road would receive attention as soon as practical.

He said: “I am aware of the importance of the road from Ifite-Umueri to the Chinua Achebe International Airport. Your demand for the construction of the road is not out of place. We shall look at the road, and very soon, it will receive attention, because, it is a very important road. It is not good that you enter into an important airport like this built in your community through another community or local government area. So, we shall do the road, and very urgently for that matter.”
