Nigeria recorded another major academic milestone as two students secured Top-10 global rankings at the 2026 Singapore International Mathematics Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC), one of the world’s most prestigious mathematics competitions.
The event, held in Singapore from July 17–21, attracted 2,285 students from 40 countries representing 1,113 schools.
According to the Nigerian Director of the Singapore International Mathematics Contests Centre (SIMCC), Mrs. Josiah Mercy, Agu Chijindu Chukwuka of Grundtvig International Secondary School, Oba, Anambra State, won two Gold Medals and one Bronze Medal, finishing 8th globally in the Grade 7 Mathematics Olympiad Contest.
Also, Okpere-Udo Hallel of Graceland International School, Port Harcourt, ranked 2nd globally in the Grade 10 Mathematics Olympiad Contest after winning a Gold Medal and a Bronze Medal.
Other Nigerian students also excelled, with Nwawulu Chimgozirim Kevin (Grundtvig International Secondary School), Stanley Iduate Samson (Graceland International School), and Adepetu Mofopefoluwa Oluwasemilore (Jephthah Comprehensive Secondary School) winning Gold Medals in various Math Master Mind categories.
Mrs. Mercy said the achievements highlight Nigeria’s growing academic excellence and demonstrate that with quality education and mentorship, Nigerian students can compete successfully on the global stage.
