Mayor of Idemili South local government area of Anambra State, Hon Amaka Obi (Iyom) has flagged off 400 meters Michael Okigbo rural road construction, linking parts of Oba-Nnewi old road and St Paul’s road, Ojoto.
The project is part of the interventions by the Idemili South Council Area Mayor, Hon Obi through the Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP)
It is an effort to provide good roads network across the major communities in the Council Area.
The Mayor, who performed the flag-off ceremony for the roads construction on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 emphasized the pivotal role of rural roads in the development agenda of Governor Charles Soludo’s administration as envisioned in the mantra of building a livable and prosperous Anambra to enthrone sustainable development in the State.
She added that those roads would not only enhance transportation but would also serve as a catalyst for rural economic growth.
Addressing the people, Hon Obi said the project when completed would open up the area. She commended the facilitator, Dr Michael Okigbo for embracing think-home-philosophy ideology of the present day administration.
The Mayor called upon the communities to extend their support to the government and the contractor to ensure the successful execution of the road projects.
She equally disclosed that the 400 meters roads construction was a project of an illustrious son of Ojoto community, Dr Michael Okigbo.
On his part, the Chairman of Ojoto South Development Union (OSDU), Chief Ndubueze Emejulu (Akalaka Ojoto) said that the flag off of the road construction was very remarkable in Ezema community. He commended Dr Michael Okigbo for embarking on the project, describing it as a venture worthy of emulation.
Speaking earlier, the Project Manager, Engr Obinna Akolonye of Royal Akos Construction Limited, eulogized Dr Okigbo for marking a significant contribution towards the road infrastructure.
He maintained that his company had the capacity to handle the project through direct labour and assuring the Mayor that they were committed to do the work that would stand the test of time.
Others who spoke on the development
include Majority Leader of the Congress of Councillors, Hon Chibueze Okoli, S.A Mobilization and Chief Prince Dozie Okafor who also commended Mayor Obi for the initiative to help rural dwellers, who are mostly farmers and traders in the State.
Present during the flag off ceremony were the Deputy Mayor of Idemili South local government, Hon Ifeanyi Anakuba, the Secretary to the Council Area, Hon Evaristus Ofido, HOD Works, Engr Anyanyo, Supervisor on Health and her Agriculture counterpart, Hon Ifeanyi Eriobu and Hon Lady Ifeyinwa Nnekwelugo, CSO Ojoto, Chief Enyeribe Obi Okoye, Chiarman Ezema Progressive Union and Chief Uchenna Azuka Chiarman Ezema Progressive Union.
