The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Herbert Wigwe, who, until his death, was the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc.
Daily Sun reports that late Dr Wigwe also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the HIV Trust Fund of Nigeria, and was strongly in the vanguard of the fight against HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.
Director General of NACA Dr Gambo Aliyu, in a statement on Wednesday, said the entire NACA family and other stakeholders involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Nigeria mourn the passing of Dr Wigwe, who left behind a legacy of dedication and leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
“His contributions to the HIV/AIDS cause were invaluable, and his absence will be deeply felt.
During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families and the entire Access Holdings Plc community. May they find strength and solace in the memories of their loved ones.”
He said that NACA, being the primary agency responsible for the coordination and control of HIV/AIDS programmes, stand in solidarity with all those impacted by the loss and remain committed to the vital work in the fight against HIV/AIDS in honor of Dr Wigwe’s enduring legacy.
