The Chief Fidelis Osita Nweke Foundation has raised the alarm over what it described dying Igbo language and called on parents and teachers to preserve it.

The foundation which said it is reacting to the UNESCO predicting that Igbo language could go into extinction, organized Igbo language competition among students of Awka North local government area of Anambra State.

Speaking during the Igbo language competition, Mazi Chuwkudi Ejimofor, the Director of Nsukka Igbo Radio said the UNESCO report has sparked off discussions and efforts to preserve the [gbo language, with some researchers arguing that it is not too late to take action and revitalize [gbo language, culture and folklore.
“The Rejuvenated Igbo Language Academy aired on the Anambra State Broadcasting Service (ABS), 88.5 FM Awka, every Tuesday for the past eight weeks is the 2025 Edition of Chief Fidelis Osita Nweke Igbo Language competition for secondary schools from each of the communities in Awka North council area of the State.
He called for proper renumeration of Igbo teachers to encourage them in sustaining Igbo language, adding that parents and teachers should be very proactive in teaching their students and wards Igbo language.
