It was a moment of grief as the former State Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), Hon. Promise Akachukwu Okongwu buried his mother, late Deaconess Nkechinyere Adiekwue Okongwu, amidst tears and eulogies.

Late Deaconess Adiekwue Okongwu was interred on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at her hometown in Abubor Nnewichi Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State. She was survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Family members, friends and well-wishers trooped to Abubor Nnewichi, Nnewi to pay their last respect to late Deaconess Okongwu.
Mama Ekpere as she was fondly called was described by her beloved son, Hon. Promise Akachukwu Okongwu while addressing the newsmen as a happy, meek, peaceful and a very dedicated christian, adding that if there would be a reunion in the after world, he would choose his mother again.
He said her demise at the age of 61 brought so much pain and agony in his heart, saying that he knew that his late mother was in a better place with the Lord.
“It is still very unbelievable, I have not gotten over the activities of that horrible black Wednesday and how I was able to deposit you at the mortuary without a fight.
“Mama Ekpere, you promised that we would win this illness of yours together. You knew I wasn’t bothered about the little distractions that the illness brought with. I had never imagined in my life that a go- getter like you would abandon your many beautiful dreams and move to the world beyond, “he cried.
Speaking, husband of the deceased, Deacon Ignatius Okongwu, said it was a huge nightmare losing a prayer warrior, his backbone, business partner and a wonderful cook.
He said he would never forget how much his late wife impacted not just in his life but also his business.
“May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen, “he prayed.
Among the dignitaries present at the the burial were:the YPP Senatorial Aspirant for the August, 16 Anambra South Senatorial bye- election,Prince Samben Nwosu, Amb.Paul Muoneke, Hon. Amobi Okonkwo (Anunebe Nnewi), the President Nnewi Youth Forum,Hon. Ejim. Ucheagwu, among other dignitaries.
