As the 2027 general elections approach, the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is preparing to reassert its strength across Anambra State, particularly in Anambra North Senatorial District where it suffered major setbacks in 2023.
In the last elections, APGA lost the senatorial seat and three out of four House of Representatives positions in the zone, raising concerns about its chances in 2027. Political observers say the party’s success will depend largely on the quality of candidates, the influence of Governor Charles Soludo, and the strength of opposition forces linked to Peter Obi.
One aspirant drawing attention is Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, a former chairman of the Local Government Service Commission and ex-political adviser to Governor Soludo.
Widely regarded as a grassroots politician from Onitsha, Obiogbolu is seen by analysts as a strong contender capable of boosting APGA’s fortunes in the district.
Commentators highlight his local support base in Onitsha North and Onitsha South as a key advantage, noting that his candidacy could help the party regain relevance in Anambra North.
With the political landscape expected to be highly competitive, observers believe APGA’s path to victory will hinge on strategic candidate selection and effective mobilization ahead of the polls.
