US White House
The US House of Representatives has passed a resolution seeking to prevent President Donald Trump from taking further military action against Iran without congressional approval.
The measure was approved by a 215-208 vote, with four Republicans joining Democrats in a rare bipartisan challenge to the president’s handling of the conflict.
Supporters argued that Congress alone has the constitutional authority to declare war.
Representative Gregory Meeks, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, described the vote as a significant bipartisan rebuke of Trump’s Iran policy.
The resolution must still clear the Republican-controlled Senate before it can take effect, where its prospects remain uncertain.
The vote comes amid continued tensions between the United States and Iran following a conflict that began in February.
Although a ceasefire was reached in April, both sides have accused each other of violating the agreement. President Trump has maintained that negotiations aimed at ending the crisis are progressing.
