Umuoji Improvement Union of Nigeria (UIUN) has elected new officers to run the affairs of the town union for the next three years.
The event, held on Saturday, 20th September, 2025, at the Umuoji Civic Centre, produced Chief (Sir) Ifeanyi Muoemenam (Ichie Chinechendo) as President General.
Two hundred and ninety two (292) delegates drawn from branches, villages, women wing, Umuokpu Adaora, youth wing, and clubs that make up the affiliate members of the town union participated in the exercise.
Sir Muoemenam, the incumbent President General, defeated his closest rival, Chief Cosmos Ikeme (Ochiagha, Ichie Ugwunze) to emerge as PG.
Other officers elected by the Umuoji Improvement Union are follows: Hon. Chudi Chukelu, First Vice President; Chief Emeka Egbueh, Second Vice President; Engr. Peter Okafor, Secretary General; Comrade Ashinze Nweje, Asst Nat Secretary; Dr. Uchenna Udegbe, Financial Secretary; Nwosu Obinna, Asst Financial Secretary 1; Nnadi Oluchukwu, Asst Financial Secretary 2; Azubuike Obum, National Treasurer; Hon. Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu, KSJI, Anipr, National Publicity Secretary/Public Relations Officer; Engr Chuks Odina, Chief Provost; Nze Vincent Okeke-Akwa, Asst Provost 1; Mike Tochukwu Onwuachu, Asst Provost 2, and Chuka Igwilo, Social Welfare Officer.
In his acceptance speech, the President General expressed delight with the comportment of the delegates, before, during, and after the election, thanking them for finding him and other newly elected officers worthy to serve the town union; adding that he would not betray the trust or abuse the privilege.
Chief Muoemenam stated that he would make peace, unity, and progress his watchwords, calling on Umuoji people to join him in the onerous task of completing and commissioning all existing developmental projects in Umuoji and commence new ones.
He thanked members of the electoral committee headed by Chief Obinna Nwachukwu, for living up to expectations.
He commended the governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, for creating a secured environment for activities to thrive in all communities in the state.
Regent of Umuoji, High Chief Dr Christopher Nnedu (Ichie Eze Odezuluigbo), congratulated the newly elected officers, and charged them to work for the greater good of the community.
The election, monitored by observers from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, was adjuged as peaceful, free, fair, and credible.
