Anambra State Government has procured and distributed Public Address Systems (PAS) to its 326 wards to mobolise people for vaccination campaigns, create awareness on health issues and disease outbreaks.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike disclosed this in Awka on Thursday, said the public address system would help to reach the nooks and crannies of the state.
Obidike said that the public address systems would assist house-to-house mobilisers and town announcers in communities across the state to call out and mobilise people for the vaccination campaign and health talks.
“Sensitisation and awareness creation are some of the ways to pass basic health information to the people to change health behaviours and reduce disease burden,
” Using this public address system will also help the state achieve its coverage target during health or immunisation campaigns,” he said.
Also speaking, Anambra state Health Educator and Risks Communication Pillar Lead, Mrs Uju Onwuegbuzina said the procurement was supported by the COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Project (CoPREP) and the World Bank.
She said that house-to-house mobilisers and town announcers would use the public address system to spread awareness about vaccination programmes and other health campaigns.
“They will communicate with people at the grassroots in local languages for better understanding as well as direct them to where they can access essential medical services within the communities,” she said.
