Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu have arrested a five-member robbery gang involved in targeting commercial motorcyclists in Ihiala.

The arrest, which took place in the early hours of March 24, 2026, followed intelligence-led operations by the police.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects include Sunday Chukwudebele (22), Adaobi Udeze (26), Chimezie Ifebi (35), Kelvin Chukwuejike (28), and Uzi Chukwuejike Williams Umeh (26).
Items recovered from the suspects include a locally made Beretta pistol, three Qlink motorcycles (150 Tiger model) suspected to have been stolen, and a red-colored face mask.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the female suspect played a key role in the gang’s operations. She allegedly posed as a passenger to lure unsuspecting commercial motorcyclists, commonly known as okada riders, to isolated locations, where other gang members would attack and rob them of their motorcycles and valuables.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
The police boss also urged members of the public, particularly commercial motorcyclists, to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to be charged to court upon conclusion.
