A renowned philanthropist, Chief Sir Michael Nwakaro (Omeleora Global, Obele Chukwu), from Nteje Aborgu in Oyi LGA of Anambra State, has marked his new yam festival, feeding his community and friends.
The event attracted top government officials, captains of industry, and many others from far and wide. Chief Nwakaro emphasized the significance of the new yam celebration, saying it was a time for farmers to thank God for a successful harvest.
As a typical farming community in Igbo land, Nteje celebrates yam as the chief of crops, and their ancestors singled it out for celebration due to its importance.
Chief Nwakaro urged the people of Nteje to remain law-abiding citizens to stay connected to their roots despite the current challenges facing the country.
Beneficiaries praised Chief Nwakaro, calling him ‘Obele Chukwu’ and likening him to an “Iroko tree” that provides shade for all, praying for God’s continued protection and good health for the philanthropic leader.
Highlights of the celebration included cutting of the new yam by Chief Nwakaro, presentation of surplus yams with envelopes and other items to the community, homage to Chief Nwakaro by individuals and groups.
