Nnewi Sports Club organizes tournament to celebrate Chief Onwugbenu’s 71st birthday

By August 15 2024, Chief Sir Louis Izuchukwu Onwugbenu KSG, popularly known as Louis Carter, an Nnewi-born multi-billionaire, a real estate guru, industrialist, philanthropist and the Chairman of Louis Carter Group of companies will be 71 years old.

Chief Onwugbenu called Okpataozuaora (one who takes care of multitude of people) not limited to Nnewi natives but also extended to other less privileged from any part of the country who seeks his help, has added colour to his 2024 birthday celebration with sponsorship of lawn tennis championship at Nnewi Sports Club.

Throwing light on the sporting event as part of the celebration, Nnewi Sports Club Captain, Prince Obiorah Okeke disclosed that Chief Onwugbenu had sponsored a lawn tennis tournament involving four teams of A, B, C and D who slugged it out on Sunday to mark the opening ceremony of the championship.

He said that the celebrant who the club recognized as their Prime Minister had touched so many lives, saying that the tournament was organized to honour him and add colour to his 2024 birthday celebration.

“We play this tournament because of the upcoming event on Thursday, August 15.  This year’s event is quite unique. It takes a different dimension. The grand finale of the tournament will be on Thursday when winners will go home with different prizes, “he said.

The opening event of the lawn tennis tournament attracted other captains of industry like the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Group, Chief Innocent Chukwuma who kicked off the event with Chief Onwugbenu at the lawn tennis, among other prominent players.

In the same vein, the General Manager of Louis Carter Group, Mr Ndubisi Okoli said 1st prize for the tournament would be N500,000; N400,000 for the 2nd prize, down in that order.

Okoli said one of the outstanding parts of this year’s event was that the celebrant would be physically present to celebrate with members of the Block Rosary, priests, parishioners and his loved ones.     

Born into the family of late Augustine Onwugbenu and Mrs Cecilia Onwugbenu of Ndi-Ojukwu village in Uruagu Nnewi, the date of birth of Chief Onwugbenu was unique as it coincided with the Assumption date of August 15, a day regarded as sacred amongst Catholics, when the body and soul of Mary, the Virgin Mother of God was assumed into the glory of Heaven.

Louis Carter began his career by working with his parents in the palm kernel business, where he learned the basics of entrepreneurship, business strategy, and market dynamics. He also learned the art of perseverance, resilience, and tenacity from his early days, which set the tone for his future successes in the business world.
