Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Amaka Obi renovates five classroom blocks at Central School, Enuogwugwu in Ojoto community and donates 300 desks to over 17 schools in the council area.
Commissioning the classroom blocks and distribution of the desks to the benefitting schools, Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh praised the Council boss for the gesture which she said was in line with Governor Charles Soludo’s Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP) initiative.
She reiterated the commitment of the Governor to providing quality and affordable education to people of the state.
Appreciating the people of the community for supporting his government, the Commissioner urged the benefiting schools to take ownership of the facilities by ensuring their regular maintenance, just as she called for more collaboration from spirited individuals.
“The renovation of the dilapidated classrooms is just a tip of the iceberg. The Soludo-led administration is ready to build more schools as long as communities are willing to provide lands for government,” she added.
Earlier, the Council boss said the donation followed her oversight visit where she observed absence of desks in the classrooms in the different schools.
She said the desks were built in collaboration with Lady Ojukwu Isiani, Chief Chigozie Ezeudoka, Sir Kingsley Udechukwu, reassuring her administration’s preparedness towards training and retraining of teachers in her area to confirm with global standards.
Also speaking, Headmistress of the school, Amb. Edith Anigbogu described the renovation of the classrooms as answered prayers, thanking the Council boss for her intervention.
She, however, listed other challenges being faced by the school to include paucity of teachers, uniquiped library, computer and science laboratory, perimeter fencing with gates, chairs, desks and tables, among others.
Traditional ruler of Ojoto, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu lamented dearth of teachers in the school, calling on government to deploy more teachers to assist the only two government employed teachers in the school.
Represented by Rommy Anyisia, the monarch thanked those behind the renovation of the classrooms and donation of the desks, describing the gestures as worthy of emulation.
