Jesus Owono Ngua, goalkeeper of the Nzalang National of Equatorial Guinea has revealed how they were able to cage three-time AFCON champions Nigeria and its Super Eagles stars in the second game of Group A played on Sunday at the Ebimpe Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium.
Sporting Sun reports that the Nzalang Nacional frustrated Nigeria with a 1-1 stalemate on Sunday afternoon with Jesus producing a string of saves as they were able to resist the offensive might of the Super Eagles. Jesus, who was subsequently named Man of the Match said, “We were not scared of Nigeria. The union of a team made a difference.”
Recall a composed finish by Ivan Salvador in the 36th minute saw Equatorial Guinea shock the Super Eagles with the lead.
The celebrations were short-lived as Napoli talisman and current African Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen levelled matters with a difficult header that found its way into an empty net to salvage a point for the Nigerians.
With the crowd behind them, Nigeria went in search of the second and was almost rewarded in the 45th minute when Moses Simon’s well-struck effort came off the upright to the relief of Equatorial Guinea.
Osimhen then squandered the best opportunity of the second half, as Nigeria was left to rue its poor start while Equatorial Guinea walked away with a valuable point.
