Isseke community moves to reclaim its ancestral land from bandits

Isseke in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, known as home of peace, love and hospitality has made a move to recover its ancestral land from bandits holding the community to ransom for the past four years.

Youths of the area in a candlelight procession between September 25 and 26, 2025 against the activities of the dreaded boys declared with one voice that enough is a enough after four years the community was terrorized.

After these years of living in fear, dehumanization, killings, according to the youths, they decided to rise with one voice and called on Anambra state government for intervention to stop burning of the villagers’ houses, rape, destruction of infrastructure, schools, churches and other abominable acts by the bandits in the community.

“lsseke people are the largest producers of local baskets in Nigeria. It is the home of slave abolitionist, Olaudah Equiano,1745- 1797,(Gustavus Vassa). The activities of the non State actors have dwarfed Isseke as a community. This

The community is appealing to His Excllency, Governor Charles Soludo to come to the assistance of people to end the insecurity.

“We commend Isseke youths for their resolution and commitment to reclaim their ancestral land, appealing to government of Anambra State to help the community to end the insecurity completely, “a member of the community who begged for anonymity said.
