Igboukwu as a town in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State was recently agogo as the traditional ruler of the town Igwe Alex Ejikeme Azike, Iduu lll of Igboukwu kingdom celebrated his second Iwaji festival.
The event which took place at his palace was also used to install wards Ide among some patriotic sons of Igboukwu for their various contributions towards the progress of Igboukwu which witnessed large turnout of people from the town and beyond.
The Igwe used the forum to thank God for all His blessings, protection and goodness for Igboukwu community, adding that Igboukwu as a town would continue to sustain the existing peace and unity in the town knowing very well that peace remained the bedrock for every good development in a community.
When asked the significance of celebrating new yam in Igboland, Igwe Azike said, as far as he knew, that it was a time of thanksgiving to God and appreciating the people who had contributed to the progress of the community, a time for the community to come together and socialize.
“It brings sons and daughters, friends and well-wishers, cabinet members of various places both home and abroad back home, “he added.
Igwe charged everyone to go to his or her wards to do something positive for the betterment of the town. He then appealed to well-to-do individuals in the community to come back home and stop running for the work of the town, prayed for God’s blessings upon all. He expressed his appreciation to all those especially the planning committee and Igwe-in-council.
While appreciating the efforts of the state Governor Prof. Charles Soludo in developing the state historically, the royal father described him as a perfect man who had done very well and would become the best in no distant time.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the event, Ide Walter Benson Ugbaja, Chief Dr Chika G. Monanu JP (Osuofia Igboukwu), Chief Nwakile Ezeife (Ahaejiejemba Igboukwu), Chief Obidiebube Anayochukwu Ezeife, the Chairman Ebe Ozo Il of Igboukwu Obuno, Dr Ifeanyichuku Milimalugo, the Chairman Igboukwu traditional union, Chief Chijioke Emeka (Ajiboye) who donated a brand new car to the King and many others describe the event as a pointer that Igboukwu is a united family and urged Igboukwu people to always be proud of their rich culture.
They appreciated Igwe, PG and all that contributed both prayers and financial support.
Just as the President General Igboukwu Development Union sir. Dr. MCK Ubah (Ezeakajiugo) thanked Iduu of Igboukwu and everybody that gathered here. He said that there is a very big development within the short period of seven months he has been in the office as PG.
He used the medium to appeal and urged all to fight for what will benefit Igboukwu generally and not as your wards only.
