Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has directed security agencies to investigate and arrest individuals involved in the harassment, illegal sealing of warehouses, and extortion of traders and shippers in the state.
The governor gave the directive while receiving members of the Abia State Shippers Association, led by Board of Trustees Chairman, Olo Onuma.
Reacting to complaints, Otti said such reports were reaching him for the first time and warned that any unlawful action against businesses would not be tolerated. He urged affected traders to report incidents immediately, assuring that offenders would face the law.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting economic activities in the state.
On the proposed Abia Inland Dry Port, Otti noted that the project remains important but must be economically viable.
Meanwhile, Onuma alleged that some hoodlums, in collaboration with certain officials, are harassing artisans and traders, including fabric dealers and manufacturers of shoes and bags.
