The Transition Committee Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon Emeka Orji has been conferred with a chieftaincy title of Dike Di Ebube by St. Domnic’s Catholic Church Fegge, Onitsha.

The event which incidentally coincided with the Mother’s Sunday ceremony in their Parish began shortly after Holy Eucharistic presided by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Everistus Nwagbara.

Prior to deliver his homily, Fr. Nwagbara extolled  mothers  on the occasion of the Mother’s Sunday, commending their roles in the family. He said that the Parish would equally appreciate Hon Orji for his developmental strides.

In his sermon, the priest reminded the people of God that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is a clear assurance and hope for eternity by Christians, saying that if Jesus Christ did not die and resurrected, that the faith of Christians would have been in vain.

He also said that Jesus Christ did not die but had gone to Heaven to secure a better place for the Children of God, even as he described Hon Orji as a real servant of the people.

The cleric added that Hon Orji was not like other government functionaries who never picked their calls, adding that he responded to emergencies when he was called, just as he recalled when the Chairman came to his parish with Keke for emergency.

According to him, the chieftaincy title conferred on Hon Orji was to appreciate him for his wonderful achievements in Onitsha South Local Government, precisely Fegge area.

“Several successive care-taker  committee Chairmen have served in Onitsha South LGA but it is only Hon Orji that has attracted huge transformation. He has done more than what he promised when he called stakeholders meeting and no place in Onitsha has more roads than Fegge. He understands that an average man needs access roads, water and clean environment. In fact, I will campaign for him in his elective position. Even if I have not eaten his money, I have matched it with my legs, ” Fr. Nwagbara said.

Expressing his gratitude to the Catholic community, Hon Orji said he was delighted for the honour, reminding them that the major impediment in Fegge was lack of drainage system, attributing it to geographical location of Fegge.

He said that he assured Fegge community during stakeholders meeting that he would make a positive change in Fegge, explaining that he commenced aggressive clearance of gutters before he embarked on road construction.

“There is no way you will construct roads without getting gutters right. It is through my intervention that the Governor awarded all the roads in Onitsha South. So, Soludo loves Onitsha South and I urge you people to  compensate him by re-electing him for the second tenure, “he said.

In their separate comments,  the Anambra State Association of Town Union (ASATU) youth mayor, Comrade Duru Chiadikobi and Chairman of landlords and stakeholders Onitsha South,  Okwudiri Obinwanne testified that Hon Orji had tremendously transformed Onitsha South.
