The South East leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has welcomed the Supreme Court judgment confirming the recognition of Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa as the substantive National Chairman of the party.
In a statement signed by the APGA National Vice Chairman, South East, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, on behalf of the party’s leadership in the zone, APGA heartily congratulated Chief Ezeokenwa on emerging victorious after a long-fought legal battle, saying that the court has once again proven to be the last hope of the common man.
According to him, in a judgment on Wednesday, the court upheld an appeal by APGA, recognizing Sly Ezeokenwa as its National Chairman, and awarded a N20 million fine against Edozie Njoku for filing a frivolous suit at the FCT High Court, Bwari.
Justice James Omotosho, in the judgment, held that there was no valid court judgment or order, including a Supreme Court ruling, that recognized Mr Njoku as APGA National Chairman.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Omotosho said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was wrong to have recognized the Njoku-led leadership of the party, adding that there was no subsisting court order upon which it acted.
It is worth noting that a few days ago, the Federal High Court in Abuja restrained Njoku from parading himself as the national chairman of the party.
Ehiemere expressed appreciation for the national leader of APGA, Anambra Governor Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for his support during these trying times, and commended the entire National Working Committee (NWC) members of APGA and leaders worldwide.
The South East Zonal Chairman, who described the Supreme Court judgment as historic in the political journey of APGA, commended Sly for staying strong, his commitment, and doggedness during this period of crisis.
Ehiemere emphasized that the time for conflict is over, and it is now time for reconciliation and forging ahead as a united front to achieve the greater task of ensuring the party’s success in the Anambra governorship election in 2025, as well as in subsequent elective positions across the country in 2027.
He called on Edozie Njoku and his followers in the South East to join hands with Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa’s leadership to work together, build, and strengthen the party for the common good of all.
