The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Awka, Anambra State has reviewed its relationship with the current leadership of Anambra state with Soludo as Governor to enable the journalists hold government accountable as required by extant laws.
This was part of the resolutions reached on Tuesday during the journalists’ monthly meeting in Awka.
In a statement after the meeting which was heavily attended by members under the Chairmanship of Mr Chuks Ilozue and Tochukwu Ifejika, Secretary, the Chapel said it had reviewed its relationship with the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo and those of his media team, including the Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu as well as the Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Christian Aburime, for over two years, despite several correspondences, had made some observations.
The statement disclosed that there was a serious lacuna in the relationship between the Chapel and the state government occasioned by nonchalant attitude of the Governor, his government and his media team towards Correspondents’ Chapel.
It said it baffled Chapel members that the state Governor could stay for two years without meeting members of the Correspondents Chapel to intimate Anambra people of his programmes and activities.
The statement added that Chapel members were bewildered that they were not being carried along in the coverage of government activities which it said were replaced with press releases.
The journalists, therefore, demanded a review of the relationship, to enable them to hold government accountable as required by extant laws.
They also declared that if the current state of the relationship persisted, that they would deem it that the Governor, his government and his media team do not need the Chapel’s relationship, and should, therefore, be left with no other option than to act accordingly.
