The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has described the discovery of the lifeless bodies of twin infants in a drainage channel in Okpoko as a shocking act of inhumanity and a grave violation of the sanctity of human life.
The police commissioner made the remark while commending operatives for their swift response and diligent investigative efforts that led to the arrest of the biological parents of the deceased infants shortly after the incident was reported.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives attached to the Okpoko Divisional Police Headquarters received information in the early hours of Saturday, June 21, 2026, about the discovery of two lifeless infant twins abandoned in a drainage channel along Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, Okpoko.
Upon receiving the report, police officers immediately secured the scene, gathered vital evidence, and launched an investigation into the tragic incident.
Preliminary findings led to the identification and arrest of the biological parents of the infants.
The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting investigators in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the twins.
Condemning the act in strong terms, CP Orutugu stressed that every child deserves protection, care, and the opportunity to live.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that anyone found culpable in connection with the incident faces the full weight of the law.
