The ancient town of Adazi Ani in Anaocha Local Government Area,Anambra State came live as Ozo titleholders gathered to confer the revered Ozo title on distinguished sons of the community, including former councillor, Hon. Casmir Oselu.

Hon. Casmir Oselu, who once represented his ward in Anaocha Local Government Area, was initiated into Ozo Okpala Umuru Adazi-ani as Ezennia Obinyelugo. Also conferred during the ceremony were Chief Tochukwu Oselu (Ozo Okpala Ezeokpoka) and Chief Chizoba Oselu (Ozo Okpala Obaego_Ezesinachi).
The colourful event drew Ndi Nze, community leaders, family members and well-wishers who gathered to witness the induction into one of the most sacred and prestigious institutions in Igboland.
The Ozo title remains a premier institution symbolising the highest level of social, moral and spiritual accomplishment for Igbo men. Often regarded as a rebirth into the status of Nze a living ancestor the title represents prestige, truth and community leadership.
Typically reserved for reputable and freeborn men of proven integrity, the process of attaining the title is rigorous and financially demanding. Aspirants must pass through several stages, from family and kindred to village and town levels, where their character, honesty and sense of justice are thoroughly scrutinised.
An Ozo titleholder is recognised by distinctive regalia including white, red or multicoloured caps adorned with eagle feathers, anklets and ivory staff. Beyond symbolism, they serve as custodians of tradition, guardians of culture and arbiters in disputes, playing vital roles in local governance and conflict resolution to ensure peace and harmony within the community.
Speaking shortly after his conferment, Hon. Casmir Oselu described the Ozo title as the ultimate reward for perseverance, integrity and success.
“Ozo is the combination of achievements of any Igbo man. I feel fortunate to have fulfilled this today,” he said.
He explained that the journey to becoming an Ozo titleholder involves crossing many hurdles, noting that at each level of the screening process, aspirants are assessed on their integrity and ability to deliver justice without fear or favour.
“Ozo titleholders are custodians of society; socially, economically, politically and spiritually. It is a responsibility that requires uprightness and dedication to community service,” he added.
Chief C. Oselu(Ezennia-Obinyelugo ) expressed gratitude to the Royal Office Of Adazi-ani led by HRM(Dr) B. C Madubuko Eze Chinaechendo Of Adazi-ani, Ndi Nze Okpala Adazi-Ani, Ndi Nze Eyisi Adazi-Ani and Nze Ozalla Adazi-Ani for their support and guidance.
He also thanked in a very special way Chief Sir Cyril Okoye (Ezeani Adazie of Adazi-Ani) for his Fatherly love, accomplishments and fulfillments , Hon. Chief Gerald Ozoh (Mmili Anaocha), Chief Ik Okafor (Eyisi Eziafakaego), Hon. Chief Patrick Egolum (Udo Nri) and host of others who attended the ceremony and offered prayers for God’s protection upon the new titleholders.
The conferment ceremony reaffirmed the enduring relevance of the Ozo institution in Adazi Ani, highlighting its continued role in strengthening traditional leadership structures and preserving the cultural heritage of the Igbo people.
