As Christmas season gradually sets in, Onitsha residents have urged the Operation Clean Healthy Anambra ( OCHA Brigade), Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency ( ARTMA), Special Anambra Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) and other sister agency to be more proactive in their duties.
Due to heavy influx of people from all corners across the country into Onitsha the commercial nerve center of the State, residents in Onitsha particularly those trading at Upper Iweka, Relief Market, Main Market, Bridge Head, amongest others have identified returnees as the major defaulters in traffic offences, open urination, open defecation as well as breaking other Anambra State laws.
Reports also indicated that people who are mostly committing offences ranging from traffic offences, open urination and defecation and touting are those who feel they are attached to the Government authority which they said might be in increase this period of Christmas season.
In their separate speeches, Hon. Sir. Eddy Muoibe and Mr. Hycienth Chukwuemeka commended efforts of the agencies especially OCHA Brigade and urged them to expedite action to ensure that the environments are clean by not allowing the returnees to mess up Anambra State in this coming Christmas.
” We are glad that touting has somehow reduced but, SASA should double its efforts because these fake Government agents will send their boys to the roads, “Chief Victor Okeyi.
” Government should empower OCHA Brigade more. Many defaulters usually fight them on the road. I have witnessed it. Also let OCHA Brigade equally begin to go after street traders, they have started blocking roads again, “Umezuluike Nwaoli.
“Returnees or non residents are our problem in this State and people who feel they have connections with the Government. If they are caught committing offences they either call the police or thugs.
“As for us, we have known all the outlined rules in this State and we cannot break them, “Elder Ebuka Nwachukwu.
“Population is now increasing in Onitsha, roads block and all manner of abuse of power begins. Let those concerned ensure that roads are free to avoid traffic jams, “Nonso Charles.
