Unubi community celebrates new yam festival, thanks God for bountiful harvest

The Unubi community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State recently celebrated their 2024 new yam festival with show of generosity. 

The event held at the school field, brought together a large crowd of community members, friends, and well-wishers.

Igwe Francis Umennajiego, Igwe Ohazurume, led the celebration with a heartfelt blessing, acknowledging the yam as a gift from God that brings favour, blessings, and open doors. 

He prayed for continued protection and good health for the community.

In a display of generosity, Chief Christopher Akunwanne,( Nze Chukwunonyelem), founder of the Christopher Akunwanne Educational Foundation, awarded scholarships to indigent students with the support of Chief Joseph Jibulu ( Ikonso). 

Akunwanne expressed his deep love for education and community, emphasizing his commitment to sponsoring students to become useful and beneficial to society.

The festival also recognized and rewarded pupils and students who did well in academics, presenting them with prizes. 

Barr. Godwin Anayochukwu Okeke, President General of the community, thanked the people for their support, cooperation, and solidarity, assuring that the town union government would remain people-oriented, focused, and result-oriented.

The event was filled with joy and happiness, with Chief Jibulu ( Ikonso )and Chief Chukwuemeka ( Okunaenyeife na Unubi) expressing their delight and urging everyone to invest in human capital development. 

The Unubi community’s new yam festival was a testament to the power of unity, generosity, and celebration, showcasing the importance of community and education.
