One of the pioneer members of Nnewi Concerned Citizens, Chief Eugene Okonkwo Nwaizugbe (Anyanwu Igbo) has said late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s legacy in security would never die.
Chief Nwaizugbe who is also the Chief Executive Officer of IGM Group of Companies, Nnewi, Anambra state said this at the weekend in an interview over the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
Recall that late Ubah empowered security personnel with high-tech gadgets which included solar light with hidden cameras, a control room with over thirty television, over seven hundred walkie talkies, matchets , Hilux Toyota vans, Sienna vehicles, motorcycles and good remuneration packages to strengthen the security operatives in Nnewi.
Anyanwu while speaking with journalists in his office lamented the death of Ifeanyi Ubah who he described as a fighter with thousands of people as his dependents.
“Nnewi people are still in shock. Ifeanyi Ubah was a mover, a pillar and so many things. His death devastated all of us and he left very big shoes which will be hard for anybody to step in. No one is like Ubah, not only in Nnewi or Anambra state but in the entire Igbo land and Nigeria generally. Ubah was very vast.
“I must say since 200 years ago or something like that we have never had someone like that. He was a rare gem and I think God sends someone like that once in a while to a community, not very often. Personally I’m still dumbfounded believing that he is not dead, maybe there will be breaking news one day that all was a joke, that he only sustained injury. That’s what I want hear. I’m expecting to hear that. Indeed, nobody knows what is happening.
“Forget about those small, small enemies of our town and people who do propaganda, the haters of Igboland.
“Ifeanyi Ubah was the one who made it impossible for kidnappers to be on the sprawl in Nnewi with a formidable vigilantee outfit. And he wanted to make sure it was like that in the whole of Anambra state. But everyone has seen the way it is. All we are trying to do is to ensure that the legacy he left in security remains. He single-handedly formed the security, donated equipment, gadgets and funds for the smooth-running of the outfit. Ifeanyi Ubah twenty years ago made it in life and was readily available to sponsor others to grow.
“He had a sharp brain and if you ask me, I will say he is not supposed to die now because of the condition of this country. So many people may loose their lives because of his death, those who depend on him. Thousands of families depended on him. But everybody will not die the same day and we are only asking God to give us the heart to bear the loss and help us to know what to do and give us who will continue to help us.
“I appeal to enemies of progress in Nnewi to have a rethink. Ubah rendered selfless service to Ndi Nnewi, Alaigbo and Nigeria generally. I won’t say his death is the wish of the enemies but only God knows.
“Ifeanyi Ubah died and few elements I don’t know what they think came up with their agenda. When you talk about kidnappers, they are human beings. Everybody knows the truth. Ifeanyi Ubah stepped in, empowered us and that nonsense stopped. Under 48 hours Ubah died, few of them came out to stop the security architecture Ubah put in place but that didn’t work for them.
“They tried to make Nnewi porous for security but to no avail. The legacy Ubah left in security will never collapse under our watch. The security must remain with the name “Ifeanyi Ubah Security”. We will never forget him.
“Our security is still intact. The stakeholders in Nnewi security both those at home and in diaspora are still intact and we will never fail. But those who support evil in Nnewi will one day be exposed and presented to Nnewi people to see. We know them all. Let me leave it there, “he concluded.
