Umueri elects new 20-man executive committee

The people of Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State have elected a new 20-man town union executive to lead the community for the next four years.

The election, held on April 8, 2026, was conducted using the Option A4 voting method and was described as peaceful, free, and fair.


Mr. Nweke Chijioke Smart emerged as the new President General, succeeding Ambassador John Metchie, whose tenure ended on April 1, 2026.


Chairman of the electoral committee, Magistrate Eugene Aghaebe, commended the transparent process despite initial challenges, urging the new leaders to serve with integrity.


The traditional ruler, Igwe Benneth Emeka, congratulated the executives and advised them to see their roles as a call to service, emphasizing peace, unity, and development.


Similarly, the Mayor of Anambra East LGA, Chief Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, urged the team to work tirelessly, promote unity, and focus on the development needs of the community.
