Popular Afrobeats singer, Tiwa Savage, has lamented about the constant backlash she suffers because of her fashion choices.
Featuring in a recent episode of the ‘Receipts’ podcast, the 44-year-old single mother shared that she often faces backlash about her fashion choices due to her age.
DAILY POST reports that Savage expressed frustration that, while other female celebrities in their 40s, like American singer Beyoncé, are celebrated for their lasting beauty when dressed scantily, she often faces age-shaming from Nigerians when she does the same.
She said: “They age-shame me every single day. They say, a woman of your age, how can you be wearing a bikini? I can because I have a body.
“Beyoncé is in her 40s and wears bikinis but Americans don’t age shame her. They would be like, for her age, black don’t crack. It’s more celebrated when you look good in your older age.
“But Nigerians, always throw these things like, when her son grows up, he’s going to see this. My son is going to be like, my mum is a powerful and beautiful woman.”
