Plans for the activities to mark the 2024 Umunya summit, being organized by members of Umunya Professionals’ Association, worldwide, tagged “Umunya summit of tomorrow, shaping us, building today for a better tomorrow” are on top gear.
Members of the planning committee of the summit led by Professor Adaeze JUNI Menakaya are putting finishing touches, leaving no stone unturned in their bid to ensure a hitch-free conference.
The Chairman of Umunya Professionals’ Association, Prof Tony Ejiofor in a statement disclosed that the conference would tackle several key areas, critical to the progress of Umunya, including innovative governance and leadership, economic transformation and creation of opportunities.
Professor Ejiofor, a former Director-General, World Igbo Congress, noted that there was need to explore pathway to sustainable economic growth, that would empower every member of Umunya community, adding that local production and global competitiveness should be encouraged in Umunya.
Prof Ejiofor would deliver his welcome address with a brief insight on the summit and its relevance to shaping Umunya today for tomorrow.
The summit is scheduled to hold on November 23, 2024 via zoom 7.30 pm, Nigerian time.
In her reaction, the leader of the planning committee of the summit, Professor Menakaya, observed that her committee is leaning on the United Nations summit of the future held by world leaders in September 2024, 79 session to stage, the maiden edition of Umunya summit. She said the exercise would kick off after her introductory remarks, a brief recap on the United Nations summit of the future, the introduction of the moderator, Dr Chinwe Anowai and the Rapporteur, Rtd Col Vincent Umelue.
Among the speakers expected to deliver lectures at the summit are four renowned Umunya Professors and other scholars of Umunya extraction, including the President- General of Umunya Development Union, Chief Chinaedu Ekwugha and the community Regent, Ichie Ezeude as well as Mike Uba.
Professor Menakaya assured that most of the international speakers who would lecture during the zoom conference had confirmed their participation.
His Excellency, Ambassador Dr Andre Thomas, the Chief Executive Officer of UpTurn Funds in the Caribbean will address the audience from his base and he will explore the theme of the summit in submission to strategies on community advancement through education, economic advancement and eradication of hunger and poverty in the community.
