Prioritize accountability, inclusivity – Civil Society urges LG Chairmen, Councillors-elect

Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONet) a foremost platform for citizens’ advocacy and governance has urged winners of local government election held on Saturday September 28, 2024 to prioritize transparency, accountability and inclusivity in local government administration.

The group leader, Prince Chris Azor, in a congratulatory message he signed with his secretary, Dr Kenechukwu Makwudo also urged the chairmen and councillors to remain committed to serving them by upholding good governance practices.

He reminded them that their victory was not just a personal achievement, but also a victory for the people who have placed their trust in them.

The statement reads: “We, as accredited Civil Society Organizations that observed the just concluded Anambra State local government elections hereby, extend our congratulations to you on your well-deserved victory in the elections, held on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

“Your emergence as Chairmen and Councillors is a testament to your dedication to the people and democracy at the grassroots.

“Your success is a testament to your commitment, hard work, and the trust that the people of Anambra have placed in you to lead and serve at the local government level.

“This victory not only reflects your commitment to public service but also the aspirations of the citizens who believe in your vision for a better society.

“As you step into your new roles, we encourage you to prioritize transparency, accountability and inclusivity in local government administration.

“Your victory is not just a personal achievement, but also a victory for the people who have placed their trust in you.

“We, therefore, urge you to remain committed to serving them by upholding good governance practices.

“We also, use this opportunity to commend the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo for keeping his promise to conduct elections at the local government, thereby breaking the jinx of over ten years absence of democracy at that statutory tier of government”

The group further acknowledged the efforts of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) for organizing and conducting a free, fair, credible and peaceful elections within a short time frame.

Other stakeholders, including Security Agencies, Observers, Media, Voters and Citizens, received commendations for their contributions to the overall success of the exercise.
