The Anambra State Police Command has recorded fresh operational successes in its ongoing efforts to strengthen security across the state, with the arrest of three suspected armed robbers and cultists, alongside the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and a stolen petrol tanker in separate operations.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a raid on March 21, 2026, at about 1:46 p.m.
The operation targeted a suspected criminal hideout in Ogidi.
During the raid, three suspects were arrested: Francis Chukwuka Anene (46), Emmanuel Obi (29), and Okoye Chinonso (35), who is alleged to be a serving member of a security agency.
Items recovered from the suspects include two locally fabricated Beretta pistols, four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, and a suspected fake security identity card.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects are part of a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent activities within Ogidi and surrounding communities.
The police also stated that the suspects are being investigated for possible links to the murder of a former President General of the community.
In a separate operation, officers attached to the Ozubulu Police Division recovered a suspected stolen white trailer tanker along the Onitsha–Owerri Expressway in the early hours of March 17, 2026. The tanker was found abandoned without a registration number, with its ignition key still in place.
Authorities say efforts are underway to identify the rightful owner of the vehicle and determine the circumstances surrounding its abandonment.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to maintaining safety and security across the state.
He urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information.
Police authorities confirmed that investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
