The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has urged the Federal Government to place education at the centre of national priorities—not just in speeches, but through concrete budgetary commitments, strategic planning, and consistent implementation.

Speaking at the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) International Conference and Exhibition (NCE) held at the ICC, Umuahia, Abia State, on November 20, 2025, Obi stressed that no nation can rise beyond the quality of education it offers its children.
He warned that Nigeria’s persistent neglect of education and healthcare remains a major driver of the country’s economic stagnation and social decline. Obi also commended private school proprietors for their resilience, noting that they continue to shoulder responsibilities that rightfully belong to the government.
Obi, who received the Beacon of National Role Model Award at the event, described the recognition as an encouragement to millions of students across the country. He reflected on his years as Governor, recalling support given to both public and private schools through the provision of buses, computers, generators, and essential learning tools.
In a related highlight of the event, Hon. Caleb Festus Okeke-Enyobi (Nkan’uzu Anaedo), a civic leader, media personality, education administrator, and culture advocate, was conferred with the Fellowship of NAPPS (FNAPPS) for his outstanding service, transformative leadership, commitment to cultural preservation, and contributions to the growth of the private education sector.
According to Chief Yomi Otubela, National President of NAPPS Nigeria, Hon. Okeke-Enyobi, who currently serves as the Special Adviser on Education and Innovation to the Executive Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Mayor Echezona Anazodo, was formally admitted into the esteemed College of Fellows of NAPPS.
In his acceptance remarks, Hon. Okeke-Enyobi expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged to intensify his efforts in advancing the association, supporting learners, and strengthening the education ecosystem.
