Stakeholders in Old Nnewi Bloc, specifically from Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State have appealed for a fair share of political representation in Government to ensure a sense of belonging after many years of neglect.
In a meeting on Thursday, Chief Akai Egwuonwu, Chairman of Stine Industries Ltd who is in the Senate by-election race; Chief Chieloka Okoye; Chief Emma Nwachukwu who is also in the race from Nnewi South, a former aspirant for Senate in the 2023 General Election, among others were of the persuasion that Nnewi South needs to be considered in the coming by-election. The now popular argument that the Nnewi Bloc should retain the Senate seat is valid with someone from Nnewi South.
They named Orumba North and Orumba South; Nnewi North and Nnewi South; Ihiala; Ekwusigo and Aguata as the Local Government Areas that constitute Anambra South Senatorial Zone.
The Stakeholders presented the past and present political office holders from the Senatorial Zone as follows:
1) IHIALA has produced a Governor in the person of Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju in addition to member of Federal House of Representatives currently.
2) EKWUSIGO currently has a member of Federal House of Representatives.
3) NNEWI NORTH currently has a Minister and both a member of the Senate and House of Representatives in the recent past.
4) ORUMBA currently has a Federal House of Representatives member.
5) AGUATA has a House of Representatives member and also a Governorship position.
In all these, where is Nnewi South in the political equation? For the interest of justice, equity and fairness, Nnewi South in the Old Nnewi Bloc should, no doubt fill the current existing gap in the Senate.
This is the only action that can assuage the obvious marginalization Nnewi South has suffered over the years.
