Nnewi North LG election: Here comes security expert, human rights activist, entrepreneur to take charge 

One of the major contestants in the up-coming local government elections in Anambra State come September 28 this year, Dr  Uba Chidiebere Nonso has released what he described as his social contract with Nnewi North dwellers, if elected the Executive Chairman of the Council Area.

Dr Nonso who is vying for the Nnewi North Local Government Chairmanship under the platform of Labour Party (LP) is a Human Rights activist, an upright, God-fearing and vibrant youth known for his large heart.

Professionally, Dr Nonso is a Cyber Security Expert and that is an area he is very proficient in and that translates to adequate security for Nnewi people when he comes on board as the Local Government Chairman.

He has given an assurance that he is going to promote all-inclusive grassroots and  responsive system of administration for the liberation of Nnewi  North LGA from underdevelopment and bring it to full-fledged urban status .

He acknowledged that Nnewi North Local Government Area is a commercial and industrial hub where indigenes from all the States in the South East of Nigeria and other parts of the country reside. He promised that his administration, for this reason, will create an enabling environment for both indigenes and non-indigenes to pursue their legitimate livelihood without discrimination of any kind.

“We shall pay an agreed token of stipend every month as dividend of democracy (DoD) throughout our tenure in office to help all confirmed unemployed graduates. Youths and citizens of Nigeria dwelling in Nnewi North LGA will further be assisted to begin something meaningful through a programme we will create called Social Capital Empowerment Package otherwise known as Poverty Must Go Initiative. We will make sure that every youth in Nnewi North is either gainfully employed or self-employed.

“We shall attract what should be known as a World Bank-assisted Agricultural and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (AEDC) in Nnewi North LGA for food security, poverty reduction and job creation among the youths and other categories of unemployed persons.

“We shall install high-tech security and forensic street monitoring devices, drones and cyber protection security gadgets. These will go with streets and traffic lights cameras which will complement the efforts of the Police and other security operatives in making Nnewi North a secured place to live in among other States in the South East.

“Besides, apart from healthcare centers in Nnewi North we will ensure there are enough General Hospitals in Nnewi and we shall work in partnership with the State Government in this regard. We shall equally facilitate easy access to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and ensure that all citizens in Nnewi North are stakeholders and beneficiaries.

“We shall introduce students-award winning quizzes, debates to promote academic excellence in the LGA. There should be scholarships to indigent but brilliant students and we will also introduce free Senior Secondary Certificate Examination forms for every SSS3 student with free JAMB form for every Nnewi student with five credits.

“By God’s Grace, we shall create functional Nnewi North Commercial Transport System (NNECOTS) that shall be controlled by the LGA Council with at least five Local Parks which shall not just make transportation easy but equally create more employment opportunities.

“For easy interaction and communication, we shall establish Local Council Parliamentary Forum (LCPF) where the people can share their views in support  or against the activities of the Chairman  and the LGA elected officers with other departments.This also implies that we shall run a free, open, fair and all-inclusive system of grassroots administration.

  “I promise that by God’s grace in my tenure as the Council Chairman I will fix many Nnewi North roads, at least twenty in  each of the four quarters of Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi.

“Special funds shall be raised from companies and individuals to assist in constructing the roads. A work force and special committee on road decongestion, construction and rehabilitation will be set up in March 2025 to raise the funds. Road contracts will be awarded and existing ones maintained.

“All the big industries, hotels and company owners like COSCHARIS Group, IBETO Group, INNOSON Group, CHICASON Group, CUTIX PLC, OMATA Group, LOUIS CHATER Group, KOTEC Group, among others shall all be partnered with and they shall also be members of this committee on roads.

   “The issue of adequate power supply must be given the desired attention to help the industrial clusters in Nnewi, individuals and other categories of electricity consumers, “he submitted.
