The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Anambra State chapter, has marked the 2026 World Health Day in Awka, calling for increased investment in healthcare and stronger support for frontline workers.

State Chairman, Mrs. Edith Onwuka, said health goes beyond the absence of illness, describing it as a fundamental human right.

She noted that the day offers an opportunity to reflect on healthcare delivery and the contributions of nurses and midwives across the state.

Onwuka highlighted challenges such as workforce shortages, rising disease burden and limited resources, urging government and stakeholders to strengthen primary healthcare and invest more in infrastructure and personnel.

She commended Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for his efforts in the health sector, revealing that the association plans to honour him with the “Nurses’ Most Friendly Governor” award. She also praised Mrs. Nonye Soludo for promoting healthy living.

Residents were encouraged to adopt healthier lifestyles and seek timely medical care.
