Branch Treasurer of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), Nnamdi Azikiwe, branch Comrade Mrs Chukwudi Anthonia has petitioned National President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim over alleged misappropriation and embezzlement of over N163million belonging to SSANU Unizik branch.
The petition, dated June 21, 2024, and copied to the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, alleged that some executive members of the branch have been involved in unethical conduct, abuse of office, and fraud.
The Treasurer alleged that those executive members have been placing her under duress to sign cheques for unapproved withdrawals of the union’s funds, and that some of the monies were moved into a private company’s account where one of the executive members of the branch and one other person were signatories.
The petition also alleged that those fingered for the misappropriation sold the old union Sienna car without the consent of the entire executive or the union congress, adding that they have been involved in other financial improprieties.
Chukwudi has requested that the National President set up a strong committee to investigate the allegations and save SSANU Unizik from collapse and prolonged debt.
Attempts to reach the University Acting Vice Chancellor and SSANU National President proved abortive, while some members of the branch executive committee declined to comment on the issue as at the time of filing this report.
