Enyimba striker, Chijioke Mbaoma, Remo Stars and Super Eagles defender Sodiq Ismail as well as Akwa United’s Sani Suleiman are in the run for the biggest prize at the League Bloggers Award which holds on Friday (today) in Lagos, The PUNCH reports.
The season-ending award returns for the 12th year to crown the best players in the Nigeria Premier Football League, the Nigeria Women’s Football League and the Nigeria National League.
Mbaoma finished the 2023/24 NPFL season as the highest goal scorer with 17 goals while Ismail, who got an invitation into the Super Eagles during the campaign recorded 13 assists and one goal for Remo Stars.
After scoring 11 goals and two assists in 19 appearances for Akwa United, Suleiman earned himself a place among the top three contenders of the award just as the 17-year-old got another nomination for the Rookie of The Season, where he will also contend with Enyimba midfielder Daniel Daga and Remo Stars defender Ahmed Akinyele.
In the goalkeepers’ category, record holder for the highest number of clean sheets kept in a single season, Amas Obasogie of Bendel And will compete with Rangers’ Japhet Opubo and Okemutie Odah of 3SC.
Edo Queens duo, Suliat Abideen and Emem Essien as well as Robo Queens: Folashade Ijamilusi are up for the women’s league best player award.
Edo Queens title winning coach, Moses Adiku, Bankole Olowookere of Naija Ratels and Whyte Ogbonda, who led Rivers Anglels to the President Federation Cup title are chasing the best NWFL coach award.
