National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has challenged corps members in Anambra State to take advantage of the enabling environment provided by the scheme to win awards during their service year.
Director South East Area Office, Mr Ayodele Adegoke gave the charge during his working tour of the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu in Awka South Local Government Area of the State.
He said the awards which could be Presidential, State Governor’s, State Coordinator’s or commendation letters could be harvested by successfully carrying out personal community development projects.
“The projects which should hing on the identified felt needs of the community would be supervised from the cradle by the officers of the scheme; but the assessment of any project starts from the orientation period,” he explained.
Adegoke further enjoined corps members to blend with the community and obey their cultures, norms and traditions.
Acknowledging the elaborate plans by the government and the NYSC management to provide adequate security for them, the Director underscored the place of personal security, warning corps members to be mindful of their movements at all times.
“The management of the NYSC introduced Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development in order to make Corps Members acquire skills that will not only make them self relevant but also make them employers of labour.
“Therefore, pick a skill during in-camp training and perfect the skill during the post-camp training,” he said.
The Director also toured camp clinic and kitchen as well as addressed non NYSC camp officials.
