Idemili South LG Chairmanship election: Igada Oba withdraws, throws weight behind Amaka Obi

An aspirant for the chairmanship position of Idemili South Local Government Area under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Augustine Ejibendu, has withdrawn from the race in support of the incumbent Chairman, Hon. Amaka Obi, ahead of the party’s forthcoming primary election.

Hon. Ejibendu, popularly known as Igada Oba, made his position known shortly after a meeting of the APGA family in Oba, convened to endorse Hon. Amaka Obi for a second term in office. The gathering took place at the residence of Chief Ayinofu in Oba.

Speaking to our correspondent, Hon. Ejibendu said his decision to step down was borne out of his conviction that the incumbent chairman has performed credibly and deserves the opportunity to consolidate on the gains recorded so far in Idemili South Local Government Area.

According to him, aspirants from Oba unanimously resolved to withdraw from the race in order to give their full backing to Hon. Amaka Obi, whom he described as a focused and capacity leader.

“I and other aspirants from Oba decided to withdraw from the race in full support of Iyom Amaka Obi to enable her complete the good works she has started in Idemili South. We are convinced that she will not disappoint our people if given maximum support,” Ejibendu said.

He further pledged to actively participate in the campaign for the incumbent chairman as APGA prepares for its chairmanship primary scheduled for February 15, 2026.

Hon. Ejibendu also commended Hon. Amaka Obi for what he described as her high level of honesty, integrity and commitment to service since assuming office over a year ago, noting that her leadership style has earned her the confidence of the people.

Reaffirming the support of Oba community, he assured the chairman of total backing ahead of the election.

“We, the people of Oba, will support your aspiration physically and morally to ensure you emerge victorious on the day of the election,” he said.
