Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Catch-Them-Young Quiz Competition has once again highlighted academic excellence, with Nnamdi Azikiwe University High School, Awka, emerging as one of the top performers in the South-East region.
The school, represented by Chimga-Uzozie Olive and Uduh Chisimdi, clinched first position at the Awka district and society level after outperforming five other secondary schools.
Their victory earned them a spot at the South-East zonal competition held in Enugu State, where they competed against 11 other schools from across the region.
At the zonal stage, the team delivered an impressive performance, scoring 21 points, tying with the Owerri district team. The contest proceeded to a tie-breaker round, after which the Awka-based school secured an overall second position.
Speaking on the achievement, teacher Nwokolo Daniel, who accompanied the students, said the performance underscores the school’s strong academic culture and commitment to excellence.
According to him, the result reflects “exceptional preparation, teamwork, and academic strength,” further positioning the institution as a center of academic excellence in Anambra State and the wider South-East.
Reacting to the development, the school’s principal, Mrs. Israel Atinuke, congratulated the students and commended the teachers for their dedication.
She attributed the success to consistent encouragement from the school management and a deliberate effort to build students’ confidence and academic capacity.
“We always encourage our students to step out boldly and compete with their peers. This helps to strengthen their academic abilities and boost their overall profile,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude for the achievement, describing the students as worthy ambassadors of the school.
The ICAN Catch-Them-Young initiative is designed to promote accounting education and intellectual development among secondary school students across Nigeria.
