No fewer than 70 residents of Inland Town of Onitsha, Anambra State have benefitted from the medical check up of the National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) Onitsha Chapter.
The medical outreach included free Blood Pressure test, Blood Sugar test and General Medical Examination.
Speaking during the free Medical test, President of NAS Onitsha Chapter, Engr Emeka Uwaechia said the intervention was in line with the organisation’s mission of being at the vanguard of battling various forms of vices against just society.
He explained that the gesture was part of the group’s humanitarian activities of giving back to the society as corporate organisation.
He said: “NAS is an International Charity Organisation that has been affiliated with the United Nations Sustainability Developmental Goals.
“Rendering free medical checks to the public is part of our cooperate social responsibilities in ensuring good health for residents of Onitsha.
“By and large, this is the most successful outing as many persons living within the area, came out in large numbers to access the free medical outreach.”
Officer in Charge of the Medical programme, Ezennia Chukwudebe explained that the initiative was not new as the organisation had been at the forefront of offering such medical interventions.
“This can be attested by the manner the group came to the rescue of Internally Displaced Persons as a result of the 2023 flood which necessitated the provision of such free medical interventions in some specific IDP camps.
“The current intervention is in line with one of our missions to always be at the forefront of those fighting any ills militating against a just society,” he added.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Edith Okonkwo extolled the virtues of the organisation, calling on other stakeholders to emulate such laudable initiatives.
“This gesture will go a long way to assisting as many as will ordinarily, not be able to access such medical interventions,” she added.
