Southern Nigeria People’s Mandate (SNPM) reacts to political crises in Rivers State and calls on the Minister for Abuja Capital Territory, Barr Nyesome Wike to stop making comments capable of fueling crisis as Nigeria is not in military dictatorship.
In a statement issued by President of the group, Mr Augustine Chukwudum, SNPM said it observed that the FCT Minister had turned himself into a military emperor that could unilaterally decide what would happened in Rivers State.
Mr Chukwudum said SNPM had decided to call him to order as some of his utterances were an embarrassment to the nation’s democracy which he said must not be allowed to continue.
He said that the group was not comfortable the way he had not allowed an elected Governor of the State, Siminalayi Fubara to have a breathing space since the Governor assumed office.
“The Minister does everything with impunity because he has federal mighty which drives him crazy but he has forgotten that there is God in heaven.
“We’re not happy that former President Goodluck Jonathan does not want to call evil by its name, instead he is speaking as if Wike owns Rivers State. It is our observation that anytime Jonathan wants to talk about crisis in Rivers State he always avoids mentioning Wike’s name because, he, Jonathan cannot say he is not responsible for the trouble that is ongoing in that State.
“The problem with Nigerians is that they forget the past easily and that is why evil continues to thrive, ” he said.
He alleged that before 2015 general election, that the then President Jonathan used Wike to cause trouble in the State and later imposed him on the people against their wish in 2015.
He alleged that what he described as the evil seed sown by the former President bore the fruits being harvested now. He was of the opinion that instead of apologies and condemnation of Wike’s actions, the former President had continued to avoid mentioning Wike’s name, alleging that he was afraid to do so to avoid Wike exposing evil deeds during his tenure as President of Nigeria between 2010 and 2015.
The group also called on President Bola Tinubu to sack Wike. The group noted that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was facing trial because he demanded justice for his people who have been maltreated since 1970 till date.
“Federal Government arrested him and charged him to court, accusing him of making treasonable comments. But today Wike is threatening every State Governor in Nigeria that tells him bitter truth that he hates to hear and President Tinubu doesn’t want to call him to order, “he concluded.
