Death of primary school pupil: Soludo commiserates with family, demands full investigation

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has commiserated with Okonkwo family of the late Henry Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, pupil of the illegal Landmark International School Mgbakwu, who died following an alleged grievous bodily injury inflicted on him by a teacher, Mrs Faith Nwoye.

Governor Soludo spoke through the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, describing the incident as unfortunate.

According to the Commissioner, Governor Soludo had demanded for a full scale investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of the boy.

The matter was handed over to the police on Monday, May 20, 2024, after interrogation of the suspect and the proprietor of the Landmark International School. The school was discovered to be among those operating illegally in Anambra State.

The Governor had earlier declared criminal, the activities of any one operating school in Anambra State without recognition.

Commissioner Chuma-Udeh said that the Ministry of Education recognized schools in line with prescribed due process. She wondered why some individuals would be running schools in clandestine manner, employing unqualified teachers to ruin the children.

The Commissioner disclosed that every child was of the State and that Governor Soludo had demanded that the law would take its full course in the Henry Chukwuemeka Okonkwo’s case.
