Governor Charles Soludo’s confirmation of Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State stands out as one of the wisest and most commendable decisions his administration has taken in the education sector.

Prof Kate Azuka Omenugha

Before her confirmation, Professor Omenugha had already distinguished herself in corporate governance and as an astute manager of human and material resources.

From the moment she assumed office as Acting Vice Chancellor on December 5, 2023, she hit the ground running with a clear leadership philosophy built on “Values, Viability and Visibility.” Her tenure saw the university registered with the Erasmus Programme, opening doors for international collaborations, staff and student exchanges.

She championed cross-border academic cooperation, with the Department of Mass Communication introducing co-teaching with Chinese Professors.

In a forward-looking move, she initiated the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Centre, a project expected to drive innovation and technological research in the institution. Her insistence on merit-based processes and transparency in appointments and selections further strengthened the university’s reputation as a citadel of learning and character.

It is, therefore, no surprise that Governor Soludo’s decision followed a rigorous selection process, with her achievements in less than two years convincing all that she was the right person for the job.

For Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, her confirmation is not just an administrative change, it is the consolidation of a vision for excellence, global relevance, and innovation.

Big congratulations, Prof! Nnukwu Nwanyi. To God be the glory.
