The Christ the King Parish (CKP) Okija, in the Diocese of Nnewi, recently marked a remarkable milestone as it celebrated its 10th anniversary.
The celebration, which attracted both local and international attendees, was a vibrant and spiritual occasion filled with gratitude, faith, and service.
The festivities kicked off with a Holy Mass, which was presided over by His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Jonas Benson Okoye, the Bishop of Nnewi.
During the mass, the Bishop also blessed a new Grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a symbol of devotion and faith for the parish.
In his homily, Bishop Okoye commended the efforts of past and present parish priests, as well as the faithful members of CKP, for their dedication to keeping the parish thriving since its establishment in 2014.
The Bishop also emphasized the importance of generosity, encouraging the congregation to continue extending the hand of giving, which he said brings abundant blessings.
“The church has been blessed, and it is left for you to come, pray, and receive,” he said.
A significant highlight of the event was the presentation of service awards to four distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions to the parish and community.
The awardees included HR Otis Anyaeji KSG FAEng ,Obi Onowu II n’Okija, Traditional Head Ubahu-Okija, Sir Jude Esimoneze , Dr. Chika Ifebuzor and Engr. Paul Erinne.
In his speech, the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Simon Muogbo, popularly known as Amuma Jesus, expressed gratitude to God for the grace of witnessing the parish’s 10th anniversary.
He also welcomed the Bishop, priests, and dignitaries who graced the occasion.
Rev. Fr. Muogbo commended the parishioners for their unwavering support and encouraged them to embrace the spirit of giving, citing the example of HR Otis, who single-handedly funded the construction of the church.
HR Otis Anyaeji, in a brief interview, humbly downplayed his contributions, saying, “What we do for God’s vineyard is a mere expression of the blessings God has bestowed upon us, “he said.
He credited his wife for continually reminding him of his vows in the church and emphasized that the couple takes joy in impacting the community. HR Otis also expressed hope that the church would continue to thrive as a pilgrimage site dedicated to Christ the King.
The Vice Chairman of the Parish Council, also the current CMO, Sir Blaise Madu (Chinyelugo), expressed his deep appreciation for HR Otis Anyaeji, praising him for single-handedly organizing the anniversary event, including covering the costs for food, drinks, and other expenses. Sir Madu prayed for long life, good health, and continued blessings for HR Otis, acknowledging him as a true pillar of the parish.
Other prominent figures, including Erinne Gilbert, Chief Ndubuisi Abanihi (Nwanochiliobi), Chief Oguadimma Cyril (Papa Fada), Chief Daniel Chukwudebelum (Ikenga Obi), and Kanyinayochukwu Obi, also offered their heartfelt thanks and congratulations to HR Otis and the other awardees, encouraging them to continue serving God with their generosity and devotion.
As CKP Okija celebrates a decade of faith, service, and community impact, the 10th anniversary stands as a testament to the unwavering spirit and dedication of its members. The church remains a beacon of hope, and with continued support, it is poised for even greater accomplishments in the years ahead.
