The Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke has described the Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha as the college that has lived up to its motto as the first and best among equals.
Archbishop Okeke who made the remark during his Pastoral Visit to the College and celebration of the Feast of Christ the King, prayed that the College will continue its tradition of excellence both in character, academics and holistic formation as laid down by the founding fathers.
The Archbishop who is also an alumnus of the College said the vibrant community of Christ the King College (CKC) Onitsha continues to embody the values of faith, excellence, and discipline.
“This year, CKC has truly showcased the fruits of excellence through remarkable achievements. The college earned global recognition by emerging as champions in the World Affairs Challenge, a historic victory for Africa. Their stellar performance in WAEC and JAMB, with exceptional grades in the sciences and mathematics, further cements their academic excellence.
“Beyond academics, CKC dominated in sports, clinching multiple gold medals in basketball and tennis, and nurturing a thriving music academy. Their commitment to holistic formation—embracing intellectual, emotional, and moral development—shines brightly as a model for all. Truly, CKC reflects the boundless potential of a community that has embraced the culture of excellence that we have introduced to all our schools in the Archdiocese” he stated.
Speaking on the Topic “Serving the Universal King “ the Archbishop described Christ as the Universal King that rules and serves beyond territories and forever. He charged the people to always say the truth and eschew hatred in their lives noting that hatred blinds and makes one act like animal.
Principal/ Manager of the College, Rev. Fr. (Dr) Celestine Arinze Okonkwo in a vote of thanks thanked the Archbishop for his fatherly disposition to the college and all he has continued to do for the material and spiritual welfare of the flock in the Onitsha Archdiocese.
“You are profound. Your profundity makes me marvel whenever I have to talk about you. I thank you for being a Mentor, Father and Light to many. Thank you for pouring out yourself for the people and the transformation you’ve brought to the church and education in Anambra” Fr. Celestine said.
Christ the King College, Onitsha established in the year 1933 has produced many eminent Nigeria from all walks of life including Former Governors Peter Odili, Peter Obi and Willie Obiano.
The Patronal Feast Day was attended by the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, some old boys of the college including Mr. Oseloka Henry Obaze, renowned Diplomat and former Secretary to the Anambra State Government (SSG) among others.
